Rare orchids growing spontaneously around Luxembourg airport

Five years after the beginning of a pilot-project led by the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Infrastructures which aim was to enhance biodiversity by mowing the grass less often along the route de Trèves in front of the airport, 6 nationally threatened or near threatened plants, including 2 orchids (Bee Orchid, left, and Pyramidal Orchid, right), were found on site during the annual vegetation monitoring performed by our botanist Malika Pailhès for the administration of Nature and Forests.
